As our team here was putting together this quick re-up of our earlier email reminding you to get ready to make your voices heard this congressional recess, we got word of the New Zealand terrorist attacks. Our hearts are broken for our Muslim friends and neighbors, and our global community.
We absolutely must recognize that the motivation for this horror was rooted in Islamophobia and white nationalism — poisons that are actively being spread by elected officials, pundits, and a rising white nationalist movement here in our own country and around the world. It’s critical that we recommit ourselves to fighting hate and white supremacy, no matter its form or its messenger, to bring together forces for solidarity and inclusion at every opportunity.
This congressional recess, alongside your other very important recess asks, demand that your members of Congress take action by supporting the No Ban Act (the lead sponsors are Rep. Judy Chu and Senator Chris Coons) that would fully repeal Trump’s Muslim and asylum bans, ensuring that families won’t continue to face unconstitutional discrimination (we have more on this in our recess explainer here).
