|Good Morning –
As you may know, California has been in a pitched battle to stop President Trump’s dangerous plan to open up the entire West Coast to new offshore oil drilling. This would put all of our pristine Northern California coast at risk of devastating oil spills that would foul our beaches, damage our economy and destroy our multi-billion dollar fishing industry.
I am proud to report that on Saturday, we drew a huge line in the sand: Governor Brown signed historic legislation we helped advance. These new laws will block the President’s shameful sell-out to Big Oil.
And we couldn’t have done it without you.
These two bills – SB 834 and AB 1775 – were the result of countless hours of hard work, testimony at public hearings, protests, emails and phone calls by thousands from across the state. These bills will prohibit refining, loading or transporting of crude oil from any of the President’s proposed new oil rigs.
This is a milestone to be sure, but we’re not done yet. We’re continuing our fight to combat climate change and I promise you, if Washington, D.C. won’t do it, California will take the lead to protect our planet for future generations.
Thanks again for your great work on getting these bills passed!
