Would You Like a Ban On Spraying Pesticides at School? It Could Happen!

HealthMotherhoodFunny picture of three playing children

Spraying pesticides in schools, daycares, and other public spaces is a BIG problem.

When you spray pesticides, it gets into the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.

And there is a national movement AND a new bill designed to stop spraying around children.

As people learn more about the health effects of pesticides and herbicides and all the other “cides” they purchase less and use less. That makes your family safer.

But how much safer could you be if your local schools and daycares stopped spraying?

What about if your local park district or city stopped spraying?

THIS COULD HAPPEN. It’s already starting in some cities across the nation like Irvine, California!

And brands like Stonyfield have gotten involved to support cities & park districts by offering training and financial support to help them do this!

If you want to feel optimistic today, read about the movement to stop pesticide spraying around children. So many things are happening that will make you smile.

Pesticides are linked to conditions like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, Parkinson’s disease, infertility, birth defects, cancers, childhood cancers, among other health issues. They are commonly found in parks, schools, and public spaces and are both toxic to humans and the environment, especially pregnant women and children in trace amounts. These chemicals are commonly applied several times per year and can be very persistent, meaning they don’t go away. Here are some of those chemicals that likely are left behind some residue from spraying in public spaces:

  • Glyphosate

  • 2,4-D

  • Dicamba

  • Permethrin (Astro)

  • Bifenthrin (Allectus, Talstar)

  • Cyfluthrin (Tempo)

  • Cypermethrin (Demon)

  • Thiamethoxam (Meridian)

  • Imidacloprid (Merit, Lallet)

  • Dinotefuran (Zylam)

  • Dlothianidin (Arena, Aloft)

  • Organophosphate (OP) (e.g., acephate [Orthene]

  • Chlorpyrifos [Dursban]

  • Trichlorfon [Dylox]

  • Carbamate insecticides carbaryl [Sevin]

  • Methiocarb [Mesurol]
