HEMP MORATORIUM?

HEMP MORATORIUM?
The Sonoma County Ag Commissioner, following the lead of 13 other counties,  is pushing County Supervisors to pass a temporary moratorium on commercial hemp cultivation. Reasons include 1) the state has yet to issue final hemp cultivation regulations, 2) a loophole exists in state law for the cultivation of hemp for research purposes without registering with a county ag commissioner and 3) male hemp plants have the potential to pollinate female cannabis plants. While the local CAFF & Farmers Guild chapter has yet to take an official position on the matter, the issue will be discussed at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting, details here.
