June 20, 2019

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee has appointed Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice to the California Coastal Commission and San Francisco County Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, J.D. as an alternate.

“Representing a coastal district, I know how important the coast is to California’s environment and economy, so I take Coastal Commission appointments very seriously,” said Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego). “We received several highly qualified applicants and I am confident that Supervisor Rice, as well as Supervisor Mandelman, will work to protect and enhance all of California’s coast. As we deal with changing climate and rising sea levels, their work is more important than ever.”

The Senate Rules Committee was required to appoint an elected official from the North Central Coast region encompassing Marin, San Francisco and Sonoma counties. With these appointments, two of the three counties are represented. As part of the process, nominations were required from Boards of Supervisors and City Selection Committees of each county within the North Central Coast region.
