“Maybe what our AG commissioner voiced to a constituent, “If you don’t like it sue or leave the county,” is what staff and elected official feel? “
LOCALS SPEAK OUT AT SUPERVISORS DECISION: (who are they working for?)
Dear Supervisors,
To say that I am disappointed by the hemp decision is putting it mildly.
I feel that your actions of late have been basically to take a sledgehammer to any opposition that is being voiced and totally ignore any reasonable accommodations requested by the people living in the Sonoma County. I guess the hope is that we will go away quietly and accept defeat. We are to acknowledge that our government will do what they want without allowing us any recourse in essence silencing us. Certainly this is not what I voted for and for sure this is not an exercise in democracy. You let us talk and write and basically ignore the suggestions if you even read them.
It seems to me that the county staff, with your concurrence, have basically been allowed to decide what is best for the people of this county. Forget that it might directly contradict federal and state law or fly in the face of common sense. It appears that Sonoma County is to become an entity onto itself where laws are tailored to one segment of the population. County counsel finds minutia as salient points to justify their stance and convince you that what you are enacting is lawful. Big business has bought its way into the board room and now has a loud voice at decision making.
Maybe what our AG commissioner voiced to a constituent, “If you don’t like it sue or leave the county,” is what staff and elected official feel? How heavy handed that is especially from someone on his way out and planning on living on the pension provided by us. However, it does fit in with the sentiments expressed previously by Gore and Zane when they showed disdain to the legitimate concerns of their constituents and certainly is consistent with the recent actions of the BOS. What kind of legacy will you be leaving to the children and future residents of this county? You have failed all of Sonoma County residents especially those of us in rural parts of the county.
