We feel both an elation around the great showing of our candidates and causes, as well as a certain sadness, that they did not win. With 100% of the vote now counted, we can be very proud that Amber Manfree captured 45.22% of district Dist 4, and Mariam Aboudamous claimed 46.74% of Dist 5. Measure K missed the 2/3 threshold with 62.66% of the vote. These are powerful challenges to the incumbents and the status quo. These numbers show an awakening to the great need for a shift in land use priorities in Napa County. This is just the beginning.
The momentum for change is building. People are learning that we need scientists participating on our Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors, individuals who bring a balance of understanding, the need to protect and nourish our environment as we face the unimaginable changes climate disruption brings. We need campaign reform so that our governing officials are not bought by special interests. And we need citizens, all of you, to keep speaking up and helping elect officials who will represent the interests of our entire local community.
Amber and Mariam both made inroads here. We hope they both run again. Most importantly, we hope you all stay on board.
