Petaluma says no to more gas stations
From CONGAS Woody Hastings:
All:
The joint city council / climate action committee voted unanimously moments ago to adopt the attached climate action framework.
After councilmember D’Lynda Fischer confirmed that making their moratorium on new gas stations permanent will turn it into a ban, the City Manager, referring to one of the prospective action elements (the gas station ban) said “that one should be relatively quick and easy, it’s just a matter of bringing it to the council.”
This is a big deal! Let’s all plan to encourage them to stay that course!

Hi All,
Just yesterday I found out that Petaluma is having a joint meeting of their city council and Climate Action Commission today (now actually, started at 6pm, still going on) to discuss a climate action framework that includes a set of potential actions. Check out Item 9…
9. Make permanent the moratorium on new gas stations and develop a plan for building out publicly available EV charging infrastructure and capacity to meet projected needs. Staff is currently developing draft legislation to regulate the development of new gas stations in Petaluma. This item is tentatively scheduled for Planning Commission review in January/February and City Council review in March/April, ahead of the expiration of the existing moratorium.
This action would ban new gas stations outright. I just spoke in support. Sorry I didn’t have time to alert all of you as I am sure some of you would have liked to chime in. Good news is that there are 27 good Petalumans chiming in to cheer them on. Many have spoken and none yet have been against the action.
At the request of the Vice Mayor, who was the one who alerted me to this meeting, I sent in earlier today our draft countywide ordinance and City of SR ordinance elements for them to consider. If you would like to take a look at them they are both at the bottom of this page.
This will be an ongoing action item until the March/April timeframe when the city council takes up the item for a final decision.
That’s all for now!
