“I find it difficult to keep usage at 7,000 gallons a month during the summer, even after taking out the front lawn and putting in drought-tolerant plants. I wonder if it would be cheaper to irrigate if I used wine instead water.”
Raising water rates
EDITOR: I realize that water is scarce in California and Sonoma County because of the drought. I get it. And I realize that our wastewater in Sonoma County is treated before being released, and this process is expensive. In addition to residential usage, our water is used by agriculture, including grapes and cannabis.
But, ugh, water rates are increasing each year — 2% in 2021-22 up to 4% by 2024-25.
Sewer rates are going to increase 2% each year by 2024-25.
My math gives me $159.28 for 7,000 gallons a month for 2021-22 and up to $175.73 for 7,000 gallons a month in 2024- 25. I find it difficult to keep usage at 7,000 gallons a month during the summer, even after taking out the front lawn and putting in drought-tolerant plants. I wonder if it would be cheaper to irrigate if I used wine instead water.
