ICYMI: Protect Yourself from Fraud
Thank you to everyone who joined our recent town hall regarding fraud prevention. We were fortunate to have Sally Kim Westlake of the California Department of Insurance, Kevin Durawa of Contractors State Licensing Board, and Mark Vanderscoff from the County of Marin. They shared about what their agencies are doing to help constituents protect themselves from fraudulent activity.
If you could not join us live, you can view the town hall, or previous town halls, on my website or Facebook page.
We heard tips that we can adopt in our everyday routine. Some common themes included:
- If receiving an unsolicited call, don’t engage and don’t disclose information
- Check the status of an insurance agent or company before disclosing information
- Ask questions
- Never feel pressured or intimidated to provide personal information
- Don’t sign anything you do not understand
- Change your passwords often
- Report it if you suspect fraud
- If you are a victim of fraud, file a police report
