Logging Plan Approved – Please HELP!

Guerneville Trees in Scenic Corridor up for Logging

Today, Cal Fire announced that a Director’s Decision has been reached on the Silver Estates Timber Harvest Plan (THP). Unfortunately, Cal Fire has once again chosen to prioritize the interests of the timber industry and approved this deeply flawed THP.  We are very disappointed.

As our supporters and members are well aware, the Guerneville Forest Coalition (GFC) has worked hard to highlight the Plan’s many flaws. More than 400 public comments opposing the Plan were sent to Cal Fire.

While the GFC has no problem with responsible logging, there are far better uses for this land, situated along the beautiful Russian River. Sonoma County has expressed concerns about this project – and Supervisor Lynda Hopkins has expressed interest in finding a way for the County to acquire the land for conservation and recreational purposes.

We believe this option needs to be fully considered before any logging takes place.

Cal Fire has granted the forester a waiver for winter operations, so logging could start at any time.

We are, therefore, considering our legal options to protect the forest from irreparable harm. This requires significant funds, so we are asking you to please donate whatever you can to help us fight this flawed and destructive plan.

There are three ways to donate, and remember that you can include us in your employer matching program this holiday season:

  • PayPal

  • GoFundMe

  • Check – send to GFC, c/o Forest Unlimited, P.O. Box 506, Forestville, CA, 95436. Checks should be made out to Forest Unlimited (our fiscal sponsor) but need to include “GFC” in the memo line.

THANK YOU!
